Taliban entered Kabul and took over Afghanistan on Sunday, 15 August. President Ashraf Ghani fled, probably to Tajikistan, and western countries are scrambling to evacuate their citizens. Amidst the ongoing turmoil in Afghanistan, several celebrities including Rhea Chakraborty, Soni Razdan, Shekhar Kapur, Tisca Chopra, Aftab Shivdasani among others have taken to social media to extend their support with the country that has plunged into this humanitarian crisis.
While expressing her concern for women, Rhea Chakraborty wrote, “While women around the globe fight for pay parity, women in Afghanistan are being sold - They have become the pay. Heartbroken to see the condition of women and minorities in Afghanistan. Urge the global leaders to stand up for this ! #smashthepatriachy. Women are human too.”
Soni Razdan tweeted, “While one country celebrates their Independence another loses theirs … what a world this is.” Sharing an old throwback photo, Tisca wrote, “Growing up in #Kabul was unforgettably beautiful .. what has happened is heartbreaking .. Sending peace to this stunningly beautiful yet tragic country .. #KabulFalls #Afghanistan.”

For the unversed, Taliban insurgents entered Kabul. President Ashraf Ghani left Afghanistan on Sunday, bringing the Islamist militants close to taking over the country two decades after being overthrown by a US-led invasion.
